Coaching

Do you have a manager who does most things well, but seems to have a blind spot in one area of their performance?

Do you have some people with potential, who just need to learn how to ‘pack more of a punch’ in meetings or presentations?

Do you have some real experts who don’t think it is important to try to influence their colleagues, but just expect that people will listen to them?

Nobody’s perfect, but in this very competitive world, we expect people to be strong all-round performers, especially as managers and leaders. The skills and knowledge they have relied on to get them promoted or noticed thus far are just not enough, any more.

How we can help

We can offer individually tailored coaching programmes to people at all levels of the organisation. We help people to remember what they’re good at and focus on improving where they need to. Some managers know they could be better at managing their people but they don’t want to go ‘on a course’ because when they come back, the team will be watching them to see what’s different.

Coaching is a very effective way of taking someone on a journey, allowing them to discover more about themselves and their impact on others. A coach acts as a sounding board, and the sessions offer a safe place to explore alternatives and make a commitment to trying new approaches.

Our coaches are experienced practitioners, who have worked in many sectors and supported people at all levels of seniority.

The coaching relationship is a very personal one, so it is important that the person being coached feels safe and comfortable with their coach. We don’t do a beauty parade, sending lots of profiles for the person to choose from. We try to understand why the person needs coaching, and a little bit about their personality, and offer a ‘chemistry’ session without any charge, for them to meet the coach we think would best meet their needs.

This usually works well, but if for any reason it doesn’t, we will offer the person another coach to meet.

Typically, a coaching programme will take place over about six months, and will involve agreeing objectives up front, sometimes with the person’s line manager as well as the person, and involving sessions at a frequency that works best for the individual. Sessions are usually 90 minutes long and our coaches provide telephone and email support in between.

A coaching programme following on from a 360 degree feedback exercise is particularly effective.
